SPRING Research and Prototyping

SPRING is a pioneering accelerator working with growth-oriented stage businesses on innovations that can transform the lives of girls aged 10-19 living in poverty across East Africa and South Asia. SPRING works with world-class experts using Human-Centred Design (HCD) to support the businesses to create innovations with purpose and shared value. The 5 year programme is funded by DFID, the Nike Foundation, and USAID. SPRING businesses receive nine months of world-class HCD, research, investment readiness support and more for each diverse cohort of 20 enterprises from a specific region. In return, businesses commit to launch a market-oriented innovation that meets the needs of adolescent girls (and have it tested with them) and support the core operations of the businesses to enable sustainability, viability, and scalability. \r\nIn this regard, FDM contracted to support and collaborate with the selected businesses to undertake research to enable them to learn and implement Human Centred Design (HCD) methodologies into their everyday work processes and strategies to reach adolescent girls. Similarly, FDM visually and verbally documented adolescent girls’ environments and contexts to share with SPRING teams who did not attending research. Also, where appropriate, gathered specific feedback on product/service and informed iterations/revisions on that product/service. Further, where appropriate, FDM learned from adolescent girls’ experiences, needs, and desires in their contexts (homes, schools, community groups, etc.) and informed product/service. \r\n
